We use 5/4 rabbeted solid hardwood jambs that are made with each door to ensure similar wood characteristics when the unit is assembled. This design also provides a high level of resistance to pressure and impact loads. Any of our doors that are larger than 36" x 96" are manufactured with three pieces of lumber laminated in a cross grain pattern. This produces a resin bonded door that is 2 1/4" thick. Crossing the grain of the wood gives it extra strength and resistance to dimensional warping and structural changes due to environmental conditions. New Erra Doors uses four or five-inch ball bearing hinges with non-removable machine pressed pins. This allows even the heaviest of doors to operate smoothly and with little effort. Machine pressed pins give extra security in out-swinging applications because the door cannot be removed from its hinges from the outside. We can provide several different types of security glass from the basic laminated clear glass up to a high-grade bulletproof tri-laminate allowing you to have added security and keep your visibility. We are also skilled at installation of high security hardware such as mortise deadbolt systems and multi-point locking systems. Another of our many security features is a steel reinforced jamb and hinge pads, which make forced entry extremely difficult yet this system is invisible once the door is installed and requires no extra knowledge or effort from the installer.
We can provide engineering calculations for all of our units should you require structural data for the unit you have chosen. Data provided will include design pressures, fastener schedules, and wind load deflection calculations. New Erra Doors also offers most of it's Mahogany 2 1/4" thick entry units with Florida impact testing approvals. Documentation provided with purchase of impact rated unit. Although our units are strong enough to withstand a hurricane force storm, New Erra Doors highly recommends using at least an Armour screen covering if you are in a hurricane prone area. Buying an impact rated door does not guarantee the door will weather a hurricane without some degree of damage. This minimal investment in a screen or shutter can save you the time, expense, and inconvenience of repairing the storm damage.
